The whitetip shark is one of the few shark species capable of living long-term not only in saltwater but also in freshwater. It is commonly found in coastal areas and river mouths and can travel hundreds of kilometers upstream into inland waters. It has a robust body, a broad snout, and powerful jaws. It is an opportunistic predator that hunts fish, rays, smaller sharks, and other aquatic animals. Thanks to its adaptability, it is among the most successful shark species. Although it is often associated with attacks on humans due to its frequent presence in shallow coastal waters, humans are not its natural prey. Today, the white shark’s population is threatened primarily by overfishing, the destruction of coastal habitats, and water pollution.
